Soil and Groundwater Cleanup

A range of VeruTEK’s technologies are available for soil & groundwater cleanup – using breakthrough, green chemistry to achieve safe, lower cost and permanent remediation.

Applications are suitable beneath buildings and other structures to achieve site clean-up through contaminant destruction at reduced cost and in a short amount of time - weeks or months not years - compared to traditional alternative methods.

The biodegradeable chemistry can be injected in close proximity to homes and buildings safely without disruption to occupants, to destroy organic contaminants including:

  • Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (NAPL)
  • Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (DNAPL)
  • Manufactured Gas Plants (MGP) Wastes
  • Creosote
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Chlorinated Solvents

The VeruTEK approach safely and permanently delivers a clean site - without use of excavation to relocate toxins to another location.

Key technologies for soil & groundwater cleanup:

VeruSOL™ An innovative clear formulation made with citrus extracts and plant-derived surfactants; advancing a new microemulsion technology to achieve excellent efficiency in a wide range of applications. VeruSOL™ can be combined with oxidants including hydrogen peroxide or sodium persulfate in VeruTEK's proprietary S-ISCO™ (Surfactant-Enhanced In Situ Chemical Oxidation) process
S-ISCO™ The surfactant enhanced In-situ chemical oxidation (S-ISCO™) process uses VeruSOL™ to solubilize immiscible organic compounds making them more available for destruction in-place using injected oxidant systems. VeruSOL™ with peroxide is 10 times more effective than any ISCO application on it’s own.
S-ESCO™ The surfactant enhanced Ex-situ chemical oxidation (S-ESCO™) process uses VeruSOL™ and oxidant combination to treat contaminated soil ex-Situ. Stock pilled soil is sprayed with VeruSOLVE solution and tilled through mechanical means (pug mill etc).
VeruSOLVE-HP™ A stabilized surfactant/oxidant combination effective for surgical destruction of DNAPLs and source term wastes like Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) waste, creosote, hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents. Clients apply VeruSOLVE-HP™ in-situ via injection, or ex-situ as a direct spray application.

Why is VeruSOLVE-HP™ better than traditional methods?

  • VeruSOLVE-HP™ safely destroys organic contamination in place such as beneath buildings and structures.
  • S-ISCO® is a less expensive process overall and is a far more complete remedy.
  • Previous applications of VeruSOLVE-HP™ have demonstrated successful destruction of fuel oil and gasoline constituents to achieve closure of sites in a short duration (less than two weeks).
  • Injected in close proximity to homes and high trafic areas safely and without disruption to occupancy.
  • VeruSOLVE-HP™ can be used for source removal, enhanced product recovery and as an aerobic biostimulant (for plume control).
  • The carbon footprint of S-ISCO® remediation with VeruSOLVE-HP™ is less than 10 percent than that of traditional remedies such as excavation/landfilling.

Applications for VeruTEK products span a wide variety of industries:

Wastewater Treatment

Introducing GreenCat – a synthesized nano-catalyst for wastewater and sludge remediation.

GreenCat is a new, innovative green approach which provides an ecofriendly non toxic catalyst that rapidly destroys problematic organic and inorganic chemical toxins. Advanced Oxidation Technology (AOT) generates free radical capable of treating a wide range of contaminant compounds.

Typical applications include:

  • Industrial Wastewater and Sludge: Organic Contaminants, Ammonia, VOCs
  • Oil & Gas Production: Green cleanup of Produced Water
  • Municipal: Sulfides, Ammonia, Organics, Oil/Grease
  • Biological: Pre-Treat Toxics
Service

All of VeruTEK products can be provided with a variety of service options, including a review of site data, support for application rates, bench scale treatability trials, pilot trial design, other technical support or full scale project implementation. The level of service is determined by the nature of projects and client requirements.

how
Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface tension of a liquid, allowing easier spreading, and lowering of the interfacial tension between two liquids, or between a liquid and a solid. Surfactants reduce the surface tension of water by adsorbing at the liquid-gas interface. They also reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water by adsorbing at the liquid-liquid interface. Surfactants may act as: detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants.
